Tauranga 2009

6 RAR/NZ (ANZAC) BATTALION  •  SOUTH VIETNAM 1969 – 1970

VICTOR FOUR COMPANY

Gordy & Glenys Nairn, Kevin & Rana Mitchell and General & Eliza Benfell hosted the Tauranga reunion.

It was the usual welcomes and meet and greet on the Friday where friendships are rekindled with great gusto.

On the Sat morning after the V4 meeting General had organised an impressive static display of current Defence
small arms weapons.

In the afternoon it was mystery bus tours. The men, to a Military exhibition at Mt Maunganui and the ladies
to a kiwifruit farm.

The evening meal was significant in that there were speeches by all of our surviving officers who were posted to V4,
Quin, Mike, Wira, Harley and David.

It was here that Victor Company, 1 RNZIR were presented with a Drill Cane on our behalf. The cane would remain
with the V Coy CSM, 1 RNZIR and be used by him or her while they were in that appointment.

Forming up at the cemetery next day, we were pleasantly surprised when the hosts presented all of us
with The Combat Infantry Badge.

Dave Page officiated at the service and afterwards we paid our respects to Rex Bowman and other Vietnam
Veterans who rest nearby.

A light lunch followed at the RSA, a waiata led by Jim Tainui to acknowledge the committee concluded a great weekend.
